How Cadillac Is Bringing AI Into the Luxury Driving Experience

Cadillac has long paired advanced technology with refined design, and available Google Gemini brings a new level of conversational AI assistance to select Cadillac vehicles with Google built-in compatibility. Gemini is designed to help drivers access information, manage compatible vehicle functions, communicate, and plan trips through more natural voice interaction.

At Heritage Cadillac, we believe luxury technology should feel effortless. Rather than asking drivers to memorize a series of exact commands, Google Gemini is designed to understand context, respond to more complex questions, and support a smoother in-vehicle experience.

What Is Google Gemini in a Cadillac?

Google Gemini is an AI assistant available in select Cadillac vehicles equipped with Google built-in compatibility. It can replace the prior Google Assistant experience for eligible owners who choose to opt in, meet the required software and account conditions, and have the appropriate connected-services access.

Unlike traditional voice assistants that may require short, direct commands, Gemini is designed to support more natural conversations. It can understand context, answer multi-part questions, and allow drivers to refine a request as their plans change.

For example, a driver might ask Gemini to find nearby golf courses with a suitable course rating and reasonable pricing, then ask a follow-up question about a particular course. Gemini can support that more detailed style of request through compatible services.

AI Assistance for the Road Ahead

Google Gemini can help make common travel tasks feel more conversational in a compatible Cadillac. Exact functions vary based on the vehicle, model year, installed equipment, software version, connectivity, Google Account setup, service plan, and app availability.

In an eligible Cadillac, Gemini may help with:

  • Finding restaurants, stores, attractions, and destinations that fit a specific request.
  • Sharing an estimated arrival time and helping draft, edit, or translate compatible messages.
  • Providing route-related information through compatible navigation services, including finding nearby EV charging stations.
  • Adjusting supported comfort features, such as climate-control settings.
  • Finding music, identifying artists, or playing compatible entertainment.
  • Answering general questions and helping brainstorm ideas while traveling.
  • Accessing supported vehicle information and settings through voice interaction.

For example, a driver who says, “My windshield is foggy,” may be able to use Gemini to operate compatible climate-control functions without navigating through the vehicle display.

Voice technology is designed to help reduce the need to interact with screens, but it does not replace attentive driving. Drivers must remain focused on road conditions, traffic, and the safe operation of the vehicle.

A More Conversational Cadillac Experience

Google Gemini is available through Google built-in, which integrates compatible Google services directly into a Cadillac infotainment system. Depending on vehicle eligibility and connected-services availability, this experience can include Google Maps, Google Play, and voice assistance features.

Gemini Live offers an even more conversational option in eligible vehicles. With Gemini Live, drivers can have a back-and-forth exchange without needing to say “Hey Google” before each sentence. Drivers can activate Gemini Live by saying, “Hey Google, let’s talk,” or by using the voice-control button on the steering wheel and requesting, “Let’s talk.”

This can be helpful during a trip-planning conversation. For instance, a driver may ask for family-friendly activities in a destination, follow up with questions about nearby trails or rentals, and then ask for hotel recommendations. Gemini Live is designed to keep the conversation open while the microphone session is active.

What Is Needed to Use Gemini?

Google Gemini is available only in select Cadillac vehicles with Google built-in compatibility. Cadillac states that drivers generally need an active OnStar plan, Android 11 or later, the latest Google Maps version, English selected as the assistant language, a signed-in Google Account, and current Google Assistant updates to enable Gemini.

For eligible model year 2024 and older Cadillac vehicles, Gemini requires a paid service plan or trial. For eligible model year 2025 and newer vehicles, Cadillac states that Google voice assistance with Gemini is included with standard OnStar Basics, which comes with the vehicle purchase.

Gemini is an opt-in feature, and Cadillac states that eligible drivers can switch back to Google Assistant through the vehicle’s Settings menu. Because technology availability can vary, our team at Heritage Cadillac can confirm whether a particular Cadillac is equipped with Google built-in and whether Google Gemini is available.
